Blue Slough Fig Tree

$100.00

Blue Slough was found by Jesus (Chato9b) in the Sacramento River Delta. Jesus works in the wine industry and frequently searches for new fig seedlings in his free time. He has told me this is one of the better varieties we suspect is suited to humid areas due to its long slender shape, closed eye, and no spoilage even in extreme heat, allowing it to dry on the tree. From its appearance, Black Mission seems like its likely parent, and was found near a Black Mission orchard.

Here are his words:

“This is a seedling fig tree I found in the Sacramento River Delta I named it Blue Slough. This tree grows wild in the countryside next to a vineyard in a slough that gets fed by the Sacramento River. This tree produces fruit from August through October, and another 2 crops right behind it. Not sure if this tree has a Breba crop since I found it in the summer with the main crop. The fruit is capable of drying on the tree with no spoilage, and also dries perfectly in the fridge after 3 weeks. It’s amazing still, with deeper notes of dates. When this fig is eaten fresh, its deep berry flavors with some notes of grape. This fig has a deep red interior with a closed eye. Not sure if blue slough is common yet.”
